#5862 PTB *k/ʔ-r(ə/a)w FRY / ROAST / COOK (provisional)

This etymon, which incorporates data from Lolo-Burmese, is intended to be merged with an existing reconstruction and data from Tamang (see below), as well as existing etyma #4284 PKC *kiaw FRY with data from Kuki-Chin languages, and #7072 PTk *row ROAST with data from Tangkhulic languages. The merged etymon can then be treated as PTB.

The Chinese comparanda are due to Schuessler (2007:309).

烄 OC *kŏg, GSR #1166c: ‘burn (on a pyre)’; Schuessler 2007:309 *krâuʔ; B & S 2011: (*kˁrawʔ); Mand. jiǎo. An additional reading exists: Mand. yào ‘pan fry, sauté’.

燎 OC *li̯og/liog, GSR #1151e: ‘hunt at night with torches; burn, make burnt offering’; Schuessler 2007:357 riâuh; B & S 2011: (rˁew‑s); Mand. liáo, liào.
