Known Item Searches

Problem Description

Among the simplest are "basic dictionary lookup" queries: queries for one or more lexical items meeting a specific search criterion couched in conventional query language. Like known-item searches in bibliographic systems, the user comes to the database with the knowledge that the search target exists and with some specific information about it, e.g.

  1. What is the word for 'hand' in Jingpho?
  2. What does mphat mean in rGyalrong?
  3. What is the word for 'dog' in Written Tibetan?

Bonus:

  • What is the evidence supporting the reconstruction *k-r-watᴸ ‘leech’ in Proto-Lolo-Burmese?
