STEDT FONT 5.1.1 Readme 1999/09/09 The Sino-Tibetan Etymological Dictionary and Thesaurus Project stedt@socrates.berkeley.edu http://stedt.berkeley.edu/ http://linguistics.berkeley.edu/stedt/ The STEDT Font (version 5.1.1): Macintosh Sino-Tibetan Transcription Font The STEDT Font and its related files were all checked with Virex 5.9.1 (virus definitions 1999/9/1). ¥ What the STEDT Font is: The STEDT Font is a phonetic symbol font devised to be used at the STEDT Project for the transcription of Sino-Tibetan languages. In addition to phonetic transcription characters and diacritics, the STEDT Font contains a full Roman character set, upper and lower case with numerals and many other common characters in their normal positions. The STEDT Font has undergone many revisions since it was first created by Stephen P. BARON in the late 1980s. With advances in typographic technology the STEDT Font evolved into a Times based Macintosh TrueType outline font, created early in 1993 by John Brandon LOWE. The STEDT Font underwent further refinement at the hands of Zev J. HANDEL, and is currently being developed by Richard S. COOK. The current primary version is a TrueTypeª outline font with bitmaps in six point sizes (9,10,12,14,18,24). The STEDT Font is now also available in PostScript format. ¥ What the STEDT Font is not: The STEDT Font may or may not satisfy your specific typographic needs. The STEDT Font may not be suitable as a general purpose Roman font. The STEDT Font does not contain a complete IPA character set. If you need a more general purpose Mac IPA transcription font, please see, for example, the SIL website at: http://www.sil.org/ . At present there is no Windows version of the STEDT Font available, though one is presently in development. Disclaimer: We are pleased to distribute this font to the public free of charge, as a public service. STEDT Font and its documentation are Copyright 1999, Regents of the University of California. Future updates to the font can be found on the STEDT home pages on the World-Wide Web at: http://stedt.berkeley.edu/ http://linguistics.berkeley.edu/stedt/ Questions and comments regarding the STEDT Font should be directed to: Richard COOK . STEDT Font Installation: First quit all open applications. The STEDT Font will not be available to running applications until they are quit and relaunched. System 7.0 and higher: Drag the STEDT Font suitcase onto the unopened System Folder and ÒdropÓ it. Respond ÒOKÓ to the prompt about moving it into the System File or Font Folder. You do not need to restart your Macintosh to use STEDT Font. System 6: Open the Font/DA mover (this utility is distributed with the system software). In one window open the System file from your System Folder. In the other window open the STEDT suitcase file. Copy all the STEDT Font files over to the System file. Quit the Font/DA mover.
